Color Trends That Will Rule 2023, According to Color Experts (& Me)

The new year is HERE and with a new year comes new color & design trends… It’s about to get a lot warmer! (and I’m totally here for it). Color experts are officially ending the reign of cool tones and confusing grays that pull purple and blue. I’ve seen this coming for a while now. Safe, warm & creamy neutral choices are here to stay and bold, playful tones leaning on the warmer side of the color wheel are predicted to skyrocket in popularity in 2023. Unexpected use of color is also thought to become more popular in the upcoming year. Some of these predictions seem a bit out of reach, so I’ve chosen my favorite realistic 2023 color trends from experts to share with you. Explore below the most popular predicted neutral tones for 2023, as well as anticipated bold popular selections—

Top Neutral Paint Colors for 2023

  1. Blank Canvas— Behr’s Color of the Year 2023

Blank Canvas creates a welcoming atmosphere for entries and hallways and brings a bright and modern feel to kitchens, living spaces and bathrooms while maintaining warm creamy undertones as opposed to harsh bright whites.

Comparable to: Benjamin Moore’s White Dove

2. Perfect Taupe— Behr

This perfect neutral is another find from Behr’s 2023 color pallet. It’s little bit gray and a little bit brown. In other words, the perfect taupe. Taupe is a perfect neutral because it has depth, it’s soothing and serene, and it has a warmth that past gray color trends were missing— and in my opinion makes it more inviting.

3. Evergreen Fog— Sherwin Williams

Muted greens are still king. I especially still favor the use of these neutral green shades for cabinetry in kitchens and bathrooms, wainscoting and accent walls.

Comparable to: Shady Willow by Behr

4. Ivory Brown— Valspar

Brown shades have entered that 2023 chat. “A washed brown tone inspired by the shades found in nature, this warm neutral is being incorporated inside and out of the home.” — Sue Kim, Valspar

Other Top Paint Colors for 2023

  1. Everglade Deck— Valspar’s Color of the Year 2023

This bold & elegant color pairs well with trending gold/brass accents. I love the idea of using this color as an accent for built in shelving, powder rooms and accent walls.

2. Cinnamon— Benjamin Moore

Cinnamon is a top color from Benjamin Moore’s 2023 color palette. Benjamin Moore describes this shade as a rich brown with orange undertones. This shade compliments the trendy MCM design aesthetic well.

3. Buttercup— Benjamin Moore

The Nordroom predicts a variety of warm yellows to become popular. Buttercup by Benjamin Moore is one of their selections and we love the mood that this color has the potential to create in your spaces!
