A budget friendly way to elevate your space is through throw pillows. These give you the ability to add additional colors, textures, patterns, and styles to any room. Layering different materials and shades gives your room more depth, giving the illusion that it is a more expensive, put together look. In reality, throw pillows are rather cheap and continue to serve as a staple of interior design. Here’s our recommendations on throw pillows!

  1. Play With The Color Wheel

Remember that color wheel you probably studied in grade school or junior high? Designers use this method everyday to pair colors together that you may not think correlate! Use the chart below to determine what colors go with your existing palette, or use it to create a brand new one!

2. Add Different Textures and Patterns

Using different textures and patterns gives the eye more “lines” to look at, creating a more exciting space for the brain (literally). This boost of curiosity tricks the viewer into thinking the design is more high-end and creative, versus if all of the pillows blend together because they are similar.

3. Use an Odd Number of Pillows

Using an odd number of pillows on a sofa or bed gets rid of the line of symmetry and equality that our brain know and loves, once again making the space more interesting to the viewer. The general rule is five pillows to a sofa, three pillows to a love seat, and one to a chair (bed pillows depend on bed size!)
