15 Must Haves for College Dorm!
Worried about forgetting important items when moving into a dorm? Here are 15 essentials I used in my dorm room! Sharing a small space can be challenging, but my roommate and I found many items helpful. Whether you need laundry, cleaning, showering, or food supplies, I’ve got you covered!
Mesh Shower Caddy
SUPER convenient if you have community bathrooms for showering. I also found the mesh ones to have more storage and easier to clean!
Full Length Mirror
Most dorms don’t come with any mirrors, and if they do, they’re small and not good quality. A full-length mirror was super helpful for looking at all of my outfits every day and not having to run to the bathroom for a mirror!
Air Dehumidifier
In warm months it can get rather humid and some dorms experience mold. Depending on where you are attending college I would highly recommend it, this helped me so much!
Power Strips With On/Off Switch
Most of the time you’ll see that dorm outlets are in the worst places that aren’t convenient. Having an extended power strip is very necessary as you’re probably going to be plugging in more things than you’ll expect. My college only allowed the power strips with an on/off switch which worked very well for me!
Velvet Hangers
Extra hangers are always a need! With dorms having such limited space, so do the dressers. Most of your clothes you are going to be hanging up, and with the velvet hangers, they are much stronger and they keep the clothes from sliding off!
Air Purifier
This is a MUST! Students are always getting sick in the dorms and this was super convenient. I have this exact brand and I love it!
Tower Fan
The air conditioning in the dorms will most likely suck. During the winter it’s hot inside, and during the warm seasons, it’s just as bad. You are going to want one of these!
Small Wallet/ Keychain
When you go to college, the first things they give you are your student ID and your key to your dorm. A small wallet with a keychain is very convenient as this is going to go with you everywhere and have your keys, money, cards, and IDs all in one place. Comes in multiple colors as well!
Mattress Topper
A MUST have with the rock-hard mattresses that are given to us students in college. I recommend at least a 2-inch mattress topper.
Laundry Basket
With most colleges, the laundry room is in the basement. Having a hamper that’s on wheels makes it a lot easier when going back and forth from your room to get your laundry. I have this exact one and it’s super cute as well!
Mini Fridge
Super convenient to keep drinks cold and any refrigerated food items!
Microwave
Self-explanatory. Very useful in the dorm!
Microwavable Paper Bowls
Way more convenient than plastic bowls, no need to run back and forth to wash dishes! I use these all the time for my microwave and they work well!
Handheld Vacuum
Dorms get messy! Having a vacuum is a must-have, but with such limited space, a full-sized vacuum might not be ideal. A handheld vacuum works just as well and it kept our carpet and rugs looking brand new!
Shower Shoes
This doesn’t have anything to do with your dorm, but, they are a MUST! The community showers are very gross and rarely ever get cleaned, so you’ll need slides. I use these rubber cloud slides and they are so nice! Very comfortable and easy to clean. Also comes in multiple colors!
